How to use the bonus bet converter

  1. Pick the promo type. Bonus bet is a free bet token where the stake is not returned. No-sweat bet is a cash bet that refunds a bonus bet if it loses. Qualifying bet is a cash bet you place to unlock a promo, where the goal is to lose as little as possible.
  2. Enter the amount and the odds at the promo book. This is the side you bet with the promo.
  3. Enter the hedge odds. This is the opposite outcome at a different sportsbook, bet with real cash.
  4. Place the hedge stake shown. The two results in the table should match, give or take a few cents.

Place the hedge only after the promo bet is accepted. Odds move, and a hedge placed against a bet that never went through is just a regular bet.

The math

For a bonus bet (stake not returned) of size B at decimal odds d₁, hedged at decimal odds d₂:

Hedge stake H = B × (d₁ − 1) ÷ d₂ Locked profit = H × (d₂ − 1) Conversion rate = locked profit ÷ B

For a no-sweat bet of stake S with a refund you value at rate r:

Hedge stake H = S × (d₁ − r) ÷ d₂

For a qualifying cash bet the formula becomes H = S × d₁ ÷ d₂, and the result is usually a small loss. That loss is the cost of unlocking the promo.

Worked example

You have a $500 bonus bet. Book A offers an underdog at +400 (decimal 5.00). Book B has the favorite at −450 (decimal 1.222).

  • Hedge stake: 500 × 4 ÷ 1.222 = $1,636.36
  • If the underdog wins: Book A pays $2,000 profit, you lose the $1,636.36 hedge. Net +$363.64.
  • If the favorite wins: the hedge returns $363.64 profit and the bonus bet expires. Net +$363.64.

That is a 72.7% conversion. The same $500 at +150 against −170 converts at only about 55.6%, which is why promo converters look for longer odds.

Frequently asked questions

What does stake not returned (SNR) mean?

When a bonus bet wins, the sportsbook pays you the profit but keeps the bonus amount itself. A $100 bonus bet at +300 pays $300, not $400. This calculator assumes SNR in bonus bet mode, which is how every major US sportsbook treats bonus bets.

What conversion rate should I aim for?

Between 70% and 80% is a strong result for a single bonus bet. Rates climb as the promo odds get longer, because less of the bonus value is lost to the stake the book keeps. See our guide to bonus bet conversion rates for the math.

Can I split one bonus bet across several bets?

Only if the sportsbook lets you. Some issue bonus bets as a single token, others as several smaller tokens. Smaller tokens are easier to place on long odds without needing a huge hedge.

What value should I use for the no-sweat refund?

Use the conversion rate you expect to get from the bonus bet you receive if the first bet loses. Most people use 65% to 75%. Lower it if the refund comes with a short expiry or odds restrictions.
